new system
So I'm going to be buying some new parts in order to upgrade the current Arkaz server from a Quad-core Athlon based server to a 6-core server. I'm also going from 8gb of ram to 16gb.
I'll also be buying a new case.
Total cost around $400.00
I plan to keep the old server around as a backup...in fact I plan to do more then backup, I'm going to move the ftp server and to of the modules over to the backup and use the new server for the DB and remaining server as well as a home for a new mod or 2.
The point is we've now hit a wall on growth and I don't like that...plus I'd like to have a full on-line backup server.
Now I'm going to order the goods in a few days, however if any of the players would like to help cover the cost feel free to use the support link on the main portal page. This will allow you to donate to our Amazon account which is where I am going to be ordering some of the parts anyway....I have a credit there I'll be using ($20) and I found a coupon code I hope will work.
Anyway this should all happen shortly.

Re: new system
parts are in, I've about got the new server put together. Right now I'm trying to decide if I should stick with normal sata drives or move to SSD's.
It's a little costly....about $300.00 more on top of the $400.00 for the system but they have a 2,000,000 hrs MTBF which means we should never have another drive failure.
Though I might do that later.
So for you tech junkies out there here is what we have for the main system
(Current)
AMD Phenom X4 9650
8GB Ram DDR2 (PC 3200)
2x Promise 4port SATA2 Cards
4x 80GB Sata2
2x 400GB Sata2
(New)
AMD FX 6100 6-Core (Supports 8-Core if needed Later)
16GB DDR3 PC3-10600 (Can be taken to 32gb if needed)
Adaptec 6-port SATA3 (No Raid)
4x 80GB Sata
2x 400GB Sata
3x Corsair Force 3 90GB SSD SATA3 to replace the 4 x 80(Maybe if needed).
The new system should reduce lag by a TON.
I'm also thinking about using the new system just for the modules and putting the DB on the old system by it self.
