Cool!

Ok, I lurk a lot.

Aria is obvious. She's a bard and an aria is a solo song in opera. (Magic Flute being my favorite opera and the Queen of the Night's aria being my favorite piece.) Dy'ner is a NWN engine rolled last name and I liked it so I kept it.

My two arkaz characters (the ones who live there) both had their names come from the random name generator , but with a twist...

I just kept hitting the 'new name' generator until something racially appropriate popped up, or at least what seemed so in my head.

Thrar Undt for the mino -- simple one syllable names, and Undt kind of sounds like a bull grunting, if you have heard that noise they make sometimes as a warning not to get too close. For a human, pronounce the Undt from the belly a bit like "Ooont" with the primary emphasis on the Oo (slow Oo, fast ndt)

Lagnar Amenk for the gobbo -- I imagine lots of "gak" type noises coming from gobbos for some reason

Noor Dameona al-Nepirtas:

Noor: Arabic for "light" and the name of an RL Queen. http://www.noor.gov.jo/index.htm. Goldie hoped that Noor would prove to be "a light for her father".

Dameona: Blending of her father's and grandmother's names.

al-Nepirtas: al is one of the variants of "of". Nepirtas is the name chosen for Dameon's family name.

Part of Goldie's background was she had a Romani grandmother who taught her to bellydance (okayed at the time by Avlis' Aloro). I've used some Arabic words IG, RPing that they are old Romani words so "Noor" is an old Romani word/name learned from Goldie's grandmother. Goldie taught a few Romani words to her daughter, along with teaching her to bellydance.

You know what I love about this game? Thread necromancy is encouraged.

I have a billion alts so I'm only going over the ones I've played significantly.

I don't usually do this, but Andy was named out of a book. A city in the book, Thremedon (a corruption of "three-maidens") has three districts named for women: Molly, Charlotte, and Miranda. I wanted to use all three names and ended up going with Miranda pretty much as default: "Molly" is the district Andy would have been born in, were she from this universe (they call them "mollyrats" teehee), and I hate the name Charlotte, so she became Miranda. Rose came from wildly flipping through the book and looking for a surname that fit decently with "Miranda."

As for "Andy," that was completely unintentional, but you know how characters sometimes just DO STUFF and you don't really get much choice in it? Yeah, it was like that. I introduced her to the first PC I met as "Miranda" and she writhed around in my head until I let her correct it to "Andy." :p

So Miranda's familiar is Molly and her cat is Charlotte, by their powers combined, they're a city from a book I like.

All my other characters are elves and get named with this thing. I usually roll until I get something that sounds good and means something mildly acceptable, but if I like how it sounds I end up taking some stupid meanings.

Eilshe Amalith: "blue-ocean beautiful-child" LOL poor guy. I wanted "blue" words for his first name, and I randomly rolled his surname.
Lueali Myihel: "riddle-shadow emerald-tears" which does not really fit him at all. When I first thought him up (in a PnP game), I was thinking "rogue," but anyone who's met the dude can tell you about how well that worked out.

Liante is from some "elven" dictionary somewhere and supposedly means "spider." I doubt this is her real name.

Caparzo = Character from Saving Private Ryan, played by Vin Diesel. After seeing him as Riddick in Pitch Black started following his work. Picked up the name as my Gamer Tag on Xbox live and just been using it ever since

Casey Den'eve = Casey was supposed to be my real name for a while, but ended up not being. Also, Casey Jones from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still my biggest hero. Den'eve (Deneve) is from the manga Claymore, the main character of the series (named Claire) is largely what Casey was based off of, someone who'd committed their life to serving and organization with no concern for their well being so long as the mission got done.

Vincent Oselli = Vincent just fit the style I had for him, something about being both mature sounding but also relaxed and plenty of silly nicknames to fit. Oselli was a random character in a book series (Honor Harrington by David Weber) I'd been reading at the time I made him. Nothing really drawn from him, just had a good flow.

Stephen Tir'ein = Stephen, just another name that came to me that seems to fit (though I pronounce the ph as ff which apparently is wrong) Tir'ein, I blame thetamlyone and eternal_time for this one.

Jan Tremaine = Jan is a character from the game series Xenosaga, effectively a bio-android that committed suicide in life but was brought back per an agreement with the police force he worked for (sort of a twisted Organ Donor process) He wasn't able to kill himself again due to programming so sought out tasks that would likely result in his death. Tremaine is another last name I swiped from that Honor Harrington series.

Not sure where I came up with Jor'dre. It just sounded right. Zachary is the name of a fanfiction character of the same name and yes, it was published. He was my creation and I wrote the story. It was set in the late Anne McCaffrey's world of Pern (and yes we had official permission) and *gasp* Zach was a bronze dragonrider.
