AFK for a while

Post by luminance » Wed Oct 05, 2011 7:07 am

So I'm writing this from my phone, sitting in the medical tent from the Occupy Seattle protest. I came today with a friend to donate some food and ended up volunteering as a medic since I have CPR/AED/first aid certs. I am staying overnight and I'm not sure when I'll be headed home. I will have board access unless my phone runs out of batteries and I can be sure I'm home at certain times if needed, but at least tonight we expect cops to show and I'm here to help with first aid if people are attacked or pepper sprayed.

There is also a small small chance I will be arrested. If this happens I won't be able to tell you so just hope for the best lol.

Whoa. Well make sure you're careful out there no matter what. Do what you've gotta do though.

Just let us know where to mail the bail money!

Sorry I didn't update this! I've been completely wiped out since I got back, finally feeling a bit better today.

It was very cold and wet at the protests. I spent most of my time reorganizing the medical tent so I'd be able to find things in the case of something serious happening. Fortunately, the most I had to do the entire time was bandage a few minor cuts. One man broke his foot, but refused to let us treat him, so an ambulance was eventually called instead.

I also did a lot of preparation for potential pepper spray victims, but no one was sprayed in the end. However, the police did eventually show up around 4PM on Wednesday and start making arrests. Over 30 people were arrested (I was not one of them) and there were a few instances of the police being overly rough with people, dragging protesters through horse shit (literally!), etc. One of the other medics had a med kit punched out of his hands and torn to pieces by a cop. We're hoping video of that one surfaces, there were a lot of cameras.

I was interviewed a few times but not by any of the major news networks. Lots of people took my photo because I had the medic armband and was therefore interesting I guess.

I was at the protests over 24 hours and got maybe an hour of sleep in that time. I left after the police made their arrests and left, then came home and slept like 12 hours straight. I'm finally feeling a bit better (I was afraid I'd get sick!) and I've gone back to working on the mods like I was prior to protests.

Anyway, that's what happened. I'm OK, and I'm back. :)

Un-Occupy related afk.

I'm at my mom's place for a week and no computer. Won't be able to attend events til like the 30th no matter how desperately I want to.

Still reachable on the forum though!!
