hum that brand new internal drive I put in is acting a little strange so I'm not going to risk it. I'm moving the guest off the drive to an external raid 10 enclosure. It's more robust and I trust it more. Give me a few.

edit: err, forgot the size of the vdmk file...this will take some time....sorry

Just got the following email from the recovery company.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry,

Our technicians have concluded the diagnostic process, including a preliminary battery of tests and inspections to determine the functionality of your drive, and can confirm that damage (failed read/write actuator heads) suffered has resulted in significant physical damage possibly due to the total failure of the device.

Due to the critical failure identified in components critical to the normal operation of the drive, the drive must be disassembled by our certified data recovery specialist technicians in our clean room laboratory and repaired using exact match donor parts where necessary (to repair such damage as evident; failed read/write heads interfering with the normal detection/operation of the drive).

Once the affected components have been repaired (as necessary for the data to be extracted), they will be restored to operating status long enough for the volume of data present on each to be scanned so that it might be rebuilt in a virtual environment. Since the failure of the read/write head has resulted in the detection of data corruption (also evidenced by the presence of bad sectors) due to the sudden termination of normal operating procedures, our technicians will apply proprietary extraction/recovery software to rebuild/restore lost data and to repair corrupted data to complete working integrity.

This drive will require roughly 14 technician hours, plus parts, clean room fees, and software setup.

Probability of success: 80%

Call me to discuss diagnostics or pricing further, or view in portal. The FINAL payment for this job to be completed in 10-12 business days: $2,425.00.

A down payment of $399.00 begins work, and may be processed through the user portal, 24/7.

Aw, a shame. But your saving as much as you could is much appreciated, and we can go on from here.

It's safe to come, though we'll have some work to do still for those who lost things during and due to this nasty crash.

okay this is interesting. Just got this email back from the recovery company.

---------------------------------------
Terry,

I took the case to my promotions department, explained the situation, and the lowest we can do this recovery for is $594.00, with the only condition being you have no time sensitivity (It will take 8-12 weeks), and we will only recover the most crucial files for you (the vdmx files). We also ask that you try our new cloud storage software for 30 days, at $19.00. You may cancel at any time after 30 days.

The $575.00, and $19.00 ($594.00 total) are paid upfront to start the recovery, and $375.00 is refunded to you if we cannot recover all files.

**$200.00 goes directly towards the parts, labor, clean room set-up, etc. and is non-refundable and non-contingent upon
the outcome of services rendered.**

Let me know if this will be doable, if not I can have the drive sent back.
