This could easily be tested in game but I would prefer to be safe by asking this...
Would you be able to craft all lower tier craftables if you only carried your higher tier crafting kit and discarded your basic crafting kit?
Example... crafting something on the level 1 list if you had a level 4 kit and not a basic kit.

Afraid not. You have to carry all kits on you. We have looked at a way to code this and it is not possible. So any Level 1 recipes you need to craft you have to carry the basic kit. The Journeyman kit will only work for Level 4 recipes up to Level 7 (I think), next kit Level 8 to Level 10, and the Master Kit is Level 11 and higher.
