Hey Terry, how much does it cost to run a PW, I've been thinking about trying to make one myself?
I received this pm the other day and replied but I thought I'd share the information with everyone...it's interesting how many people think they can run a PW without much problem....well ya it's possible but you have to be ready to pay for it in the long run. Now most of us do this because we enjoy it...that's why I do it. It's a hobby, I guess I could be out fishing but I enjoy this more. So here was my reply
Well it depends on how much into it you want to get...here are my costs

Code: Select all

Web Hosting $9.95
Power $28
ISP $90.00

Total Monthly $127.95

Current total for all months(11) $1407.45

PC Cost Nuvar $750.00
PC Cost Iron $750.00
PC Cost DB $500.00
Total PC Cost $2000.00

Total Cost to date: $3407.45
Total received from donations: $239.29

Total out of Pocket cost: $3168.16
As you can see, I've paid over $3000 out to get Arkaz up and going. Now 3k in a year for a hobby isn't that much but make sure before you get going you understand it's not cheap nor easy...and we are a small world..Avlis spends A LOT MORE then this..but they are a lot larger then Arkaz so it's expected.

Hope that gives you the informaiton you needed.

Terry
Wow you know until I put it all down I never knew how much I was paying...LOL points at the donate link. Not to worry though I enjoy it so I'll keep it going until then end :D

LOL, that was about the same responce I received back from my reply. That's why most PW's including this one have some type of donation system in place...it's costly...but it's still worth it I think.

heh aye, but you learn to take shortcuts, for example, I got the ISP to drop our monthly cost today to $80 a month, but I had to prepay for a year, so if Al is sitting down, I wrote a check today for $960.00...but it saved us $120.00 so it was worth it, I'm looking into the webhosting as well, if I prepay for a year I can save like $18.

Anyway, time to up those donations :)
