Going Over the Edge

Hey folks,

Would like to take a moment of your time and let all of you know that I'm going to be taking part in a fundraising event for the Special Olympics which is going to throw me off a building.

Okay actually I'll be rappelling twenty-five stories off the side of a building but really it's about the same thing. :P The event itself is called Over the Edge, http://www.overtheedgeva.com/ which is very appropriately named because I believe I was over the edge of my sanity when I agreed to represent my company this year.

They've set me up with a shiny donation page for folks to send in their support of this cause (and in small part me)

Every little bit helps so if anyone's feeling especially generous please drop in and donate. The event itself is Friday October 21st, I'll see if I can have someone take some pictures of me sobbing like a little girl as I make the plunge.

Thanks in advance for any support given in the form of monies, prayers, and well wishings. :)

Update: A few weeks ago the program invited all plungees (ones who are going to plunge off the building) out to a challenge course they have set up at one of the colleges out here.

We got to wear awesome helmets and harnesses with "lobster claws" that we used to make our way across a raised wire course. It was an experience to say the least as we had to make it across in pairs, trying it on your own usually meant taking a nasty spill. I rather expected myself to panic a little from the height and the whole falling thing, but found myself too occupied helping folks keep their own cool and lending some help with balance to even have a chance to realize how high I was.

A nice step towards prepping myself and everyone for the big drop in October.

Here's a link to the photo album and me in green climbing up the ropes to get to the top....it was tall, very very tall.

Today was the day of the big event. Ended up being one of the first folks to go and it was amazing! A bit too much work for falling in my personal opinion. Left arm was literally unable to move by the time I got done after having to hold down the latch that let the rope lower me down.

I could ~almost~ see my apartment from up there

Which looks sillier, our ginormous helmet heads or the hot pink shoes?

In the end the program ended up raising over $90,000 dollars towards the Special Olympics program, and amazing accomplishment I was more than happy to be a part of.
