Turning on advanced security

Post by terryrayc » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:32 pm

Due to the fact I'm getting tired of deleting and banning spam bots, I'm turning on the advanced security feature of the forums. This will check the IPs of anyone conencting to the forums against the SBL(Spambaus Black List), if the IP is on the lost it will block access to the forums.

Now I'm guessing none of you are on the list, however if your ISP is on the list and the IP they assign you tomorrow is on the list you will get blocked. In that case email staff at arkaz.com and I'll take care of it for you.

Now because this does a check everytime people connect to the forums and it's against a live DB online, you might notice it takes a second or 2 longer to make that first connection. Sorry about that but it cannot be helped.

Also I've set the automatic login feature to expire every 14 days, so after 2 weeks you'll have to again log in.

Thanks in advance and I'm sorry if this drives anyone crazt but I just deleted about 7 spam postings by 3 new spam accounts today, and this isn't the first time....I'm really getting tired of being an outlet for wow gold sales flyers.

I definately would rather deal with the increased security than spam bots. Go for it Terry :D

Agreed. I've logged in and seen spam on the boards and wondered "What is going on?"

Thanks Terry for looking out for us.

It is definately needed. Those bots are a pure pain. If it expires every couple of days I would not care if it stops those annoying postings.
