I thought I'd drop a line and give everyone the current status of how things stand.
We've almost completed 3 full years of play time. I know that's a long time in computer years. We current run 2 game server (Nuvar and Iron) with 2 more almost ready to go online. We've completed the upgrade the the final nwn patch 1.69 which makes me a little sad because there is still so much I'd like them to add to the game.
Our staff has grown even with a few losses. We have a good group of DMs several builders and a scripter that rocks so we're in good shape. I just finished building a VMware farm for our use which makes things a little easier on me when it comes to building new servers, plus with todays hardware costs it's cheaper in the long run. Donations have been short but I expect that as players move on to other things, oh our $1200.00 goal for 2008 we received a little over $400.00 which slowed down the growth a little but that's all good.
So what did we see in 2008?
Well we saw a new website, about 300 new areas, major updates to most of the core systems, lots of new systems, the 1.69 upgrade. That's a lot for a player run game I think. We also saw some hardware failures a move of the server...heck a move of me. 2008 also marked the downturn of my involvement in Arkaz. With the birth of Kolin things kinda got busy. I still keep my hands in the pot but the days of me spending 30+ hours a week working on Arkaz are gone. But that's okay because we've got a good core team and things are going well.
So what's in store for 2009?
Well about 500 areas, 2 new islands, more systems, more staff members and more growth. I think we still have a few years left in us.
So game on everyone and enjoy!
