Divine Caster Updates

The divine caster code on Arkaz has been updated.

This change will affect all characters able to cast divine spells who have a non-native God in their deity field. The previous system we had in place would limit clerics and druids to fourth circle spells and below, with rangers and paladins being limited to second circle spells

The latest update (which has now gone live) changes this limitation: anyone following a non-native deity, and casting divine spells, will no longer be limited to specific circles. We have taken an alternative approach which means a character with a divine casting class will instead have that class treated as four levels lower than the actual level.

To use a specific example, a level 24 cleric following a non-Arkaz deity would be treated as a level 20 cleric for any spells they cast, but will have full access to spells from first through to ninth circle.

This is an OOC post to let you know of the change and to reveal how it works. There may be an IC event to follow it up later. ;)

If you have any feedback, concerns or any problems, be sure to let us know. :)

Edited by BrunoKnotslinger to correct the level of spells off-world clerics could cast (4 instead of 5).

Well done. I'm sure this will make visiting clerics happier. At least now they will be able to participate more in the killing of the monsters.

There has been a change that will be live soon that applies only for PCs with a non-Arkaz deity or with a deity that doesn't support the class that the spell is being cast from:

For PCs with between 1-8 Cleric/Druid levels, there will be no caster level adjustment. PCs with between 9-12 Cleric/Druid levels will cast their spells at caster level 8. PCs with more than 12 Cleric/Druid levels will cast their spells at the -4 caster level penalty.

For PCs with between 1-10 Paladin/Ranger levels, there will be no caster level adjustment. PCs with between 11-14 Paladin/Ranger levels will cast their spells at caster level 10. PCs with more than 14 Paladin/Ranger levels will cast their spells at the -4 caster level penalty.

The rationale behind this change is that the penalties start at the first level at which a spell of 5th level for Clerics/Druids and 3rd level for Paladin/Rangers is allowed.

I can agree with this. All in all it is a much better system as it does not totally kill a divine based class. A good compromise I think... and that's saying something considering how venomously I hate God Codes.

+1 I would hope the rest of CoPaP would be interested in something like this, as it adds fairness to all of the servers.

Finally!!! Someone has implemented a fair system that penalizes, but does not completely negate the divine spell casting ability of characters from the Outer Planes. Now, if only the rest of Co-Pap were to adopt this system.

How does Epic Spells works for a cleric with not a diety on Arkaz? Normally there is -4 caster lvs so 21 lvl req would be 25? At lvl 27 cleric i cant use an epic spell, like the summoned dragon. Tried find information about this but failed, so asking here if someone knows,

Thanks in advance
