Forums Moving to a new home!!

Post by terryrayc » Thu Jun 25, 2009 5:12 pm

Just a heads up. Due to the issues I've been having with bluedomino I am planning to move the forums to dreamhost shortly. I'll begin prepping for the move today. I'll have everything set over there and ready before I begin the domain move. Once the domain move begins I'll backup the forums and and import the DB over to the new host.

The issue is that for a few days the forums might be down. I plan to put up a temp forum so we can continue to talk during the move. However I do not plan to preserve that data so anything posted or said will be lost after the move.

Also I will be upgrading phpbb from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 and replacing the portal for the forums with a new portal system. The current portal is pretty much dead, the developer hasn't done anything to it in about a year. I'll be switching to a more supported portal. I'll also be upgrading the wiki and the gallery to the latest versions as well as the Mantis system.

Now the last time I moved a domain from blue to dream it took 48 hours. I'm hoping this move will be quicker.

I like dreamhost, besides the fact that they are a lot cheaper then blue, they do not limit us in any way. So the old (You've exceeded your DB traffic limit for the month) messages will be a thing of the past. Also they support other features...such as streaming video and other things.

I think this will be a good move for us...it just might be a painful move for a few days.

Terry

Sounds great Terry. I'm sure we can deal with a few days of downtime for the improved forums. :)

If the forums are down and anyone needs to contact me,I can be reached at Copap.org as Corwink or email me at

OOOH!

Well I hope we skip on the streaming video. Eh heh.

I'm glad to hear we'll move to somewhere where we don't have to worry about forums going down due to too many queries or anything.

Thanks for doing this for us.

Uhm...I don't think anyone will need to contact me, but if you do, you can use the Ysgard forum with the same boardname (Ronan). Or hound me endlessly on IRC until I reply.
