NPC is an acronym for Non Player Character
IG is an acronym for In Game
DM is an acronym for Dungeon Master

Overview
Non Player Character is most commonly used to describe Characters found IG which are not controlled by a player. NPCs are normally controlled by the IA of the server or at times they can be controlled by DMs.
